2000, March 26, 10:43am -- Her siblings were born.  Joyce and John were twins who needed more attention so Carlene became more of a loner.  She knew her family loved her, but her parents had to focus on the twins leaving her to find things to do on her own.  Books took her focus as the years went on.

2020, November 9 -- Being her first day in class at [ICE https://ice.edu/], Carlene had her first moments in a "real" kitchen.  As she stood there before class started, the world began to change and she was shocked to see it was more magical than it was.  A voracious hunger hit her as she stood alone in the classroom.  She was about an hour early for class so none of her classmates had arrived yet.  As she watched, she could see an overlay on what she saw as if double-vision but the other world was real and the mundane world was muted and dull.  She stared in fascination and the thought briefly floated through that she had been drugged before she caught sight of her face in the stainless steel refrigerator.  She gave a scream that was thankfully not heard by anyone else.  She fled to the bathroom.
