Description

Grizzled and haggard looking from years of stress before his embrace. His rigid grey skin doesn't help to keep him from looking far older than he is. His features are still relatively human (no wings) from a distance. When in public he covers himself with a long trench-coat, gloves and a fedora.

Bio

During the early years of prohibition in Miami Emerson Taylor found himself disgusted and disenfranchised with the law enforcement he was a part of. Leaving the force he went to work as a private investigator. Mostly finding bail jumpers, tracking down runaways, and locating stolen valuables. He was gravely injured during a shoot out with dirty cops which caused him to retire altogether. This wasn't the first time he had run into something he couldn't explain. Stories of the supernatural weren't uncommon during his time on the force or as a PI. Now working administratively in a small three person privately owned Investigations firm the depression of being unable to be active sets in.

He eventually turns to writing. He becomes a reasonably successful writer and even illustrated a weekly comic strip in the newspaper called Walking the Beat. The themes of his stories always explored the fantasies (so he thought) of a supernatural world that exists hidden from mortal eyes. Drawing upon his own experiences he writes about vampires, ghosts, and werewolves. Completely unaware these things exist. That was until he was seemingly randomly embraced by a 'migratory' gargoyle who embraced him and his sister Abigail (a night club worker and a CI) and left them to fend for himself.

Its here his bottle up depression and generally jaded view of humanity and the effects of a gargoyle embrace cause a subtle break of his psyche. Emerson now believes he's part of the stories he's written. During the day when he sleeps he dreams, of a normal life, not much different to the one before his embrace. But at night when he awakes its simply him taking part in crafting the stories he writes.

His departure from reality comes and goes depending on stress levels and the current events. Melancholy, jaded and a bit of an asshole during the boring times, he lights up when he is able to seek justice and protect those in his vicinity. Very few people are aware of his delusions, as characters in a story he's writing it wouldn't make logical sense for him to reveal he thinks everything around him is make believe and a figment of his imagination but a few have figured it out.

Quotes
  • “You sure you want to come with me?” I said. “The odds are not good.”
  • “I think what I truly believe in is people. They can always surprise you. They have such potential . . . They can change and grow and become so much more than they or anyone else would ever have thought possible. Unlike vampires.”
  • “How can you not approve of gods when you are one?”
  • "He can be a prick. And he's not all there. And he's dangerous. I like him." - Luc
