The Elder known as Karl Devereaux was one of the oldest surviving members of House Goratrix. An academic prodigy, he mastered numerous scholarly pursuits in his lifetime. Mathematics, history, and astronomy were only a few of his areas of interest. It was his study of the occult, however, that eventually led to his embrace by the newly created Clan Tremere nearly 1000 years ago.
Devereaux's loyalties shifted over the centuries, abandoning the Camarilla and following Elder Goratrix to the Sabbat, and then ingratiating himself with the Independent Alliance. Eventually, Devereaux's tendency for unorthodox research came to the attention of Aisling Sturbridge, who convinced him to put his keen intellect to the task of completing the recreation of the Gargoyle creation ritual. This aligned with Devereaux's rather unsavory interests, as he was already guilty of multiple violations of the Montmartre Pact. Allegedly.
Eventually, Devereaux's activities on the archipelago of Malta were discovered by a multi-sect task force, and the Elder Tremere apparently met his untimely destruction at their hands.
