  • 1908: April 14th--Kirsten Diane Vanleer was born to Joseph and Marie Vanleer in rural Ohio in the town Rogue's Hollow just outside Doylestown. She was known as both a beauty and a talented singer from a young age. Encouraged by her friends and family, she learned how to play piano and compose music on a piano, and took singing lessons to guide her voice even better. She had a dream of becoming an opera singer after getting to hear one sing once.

  • 1927: June 19th--Kirsten was given an offer she couldn't resist. Running away from home, she found herself drawn to Akron, Ohio and was enticed into singing for a speakeasy. On June 19th, 1927 a club owner offered to promote her but she had to be his moll. In order to be on stage and advance her career, she agreed and got a good following. She wasn't happy about the moll part, but it was for her music. Both she and the man (unnamed) knew what the relationship was based on so there were no secrets there.

  • 1928: December 23--One night, she was approached by a fan (gender ambiguous until sire determined by ties). The fan flattered her and after several months of this adoration, she was given the choice "Would you do anything for your music? Anything at all?" and she said yes. And at that she was embraced.

  • 1939: March 17th--During the time of her accounting, Kirsten knew she had to leave the old life behind and sever all the ties to her family. She focused on becoming a new person. She chose the name Ligeia as her kindred name to pay homage to her "death" to the mortal society that she had known. She finally was able to escape being a moll and chrysalis into a kindred butterfly. When she was released, Ligeia took a role beside her sire to assist them in creating the Music of the Spheres for the other non-musical kindred.

  • 1939 to 1999: After being released, she kept her head down and her music silent while she operated under the mortal radar as decade after decade continued. She was only able to sing in kindred company, and even then they were careful about her because of her disciplines. As the 20th century progressed she allowed herself to go to rock concerts and learn modern music styles. She trained herself to sing in the style of famous singers of the time, but in the 1970's and 80's kept coming back to the genre of gothic-metal music. This drew her in and was almost addicting to her soul.

  • 2010: Finally, she crafted a song in the spring of 2010, and got a little known band to accompany her. Ligeia released it on YouTube as an experiment as she wondered how the medium would handle her playdate with the music scale. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7-8hK2f_ Success came. To protect her true self, she created a persona for herself--Lachrymosa, and a backstory and an airtight mortal history--she kept her "true name" private and only known to the kindred who were semi-horrified at her actions.

She soaked in the attention and adoration as she was able to use her voice for the first time since her embrace to the mortal masses. The number of fans grew. She worked with the band and released an album "Nevermore." It soared on the dark metal charts. Three years later she released "Nightfall." It too rose up the charts. While Ligeia toured she had on stage with her a raven was named Quoth who was her mortal pet/kindred retainer and as part of the show. The bird is well trained and the audience was enchanted but something told her to step back so she retreated from the crowds into the shadows to preserve her safety when she felt she might be reaching too high and bring danger upon kindred society.

  • 2017: After a turn with fame, Lachrymosa began to withdraw from live shows and returned to the quiet kindred life. In 2017 she moved to Allentown and bought a nightclub on what she calls "the Island of the Damned" to the delight of her CoE family, and "settled down." Her life is private there, but her club in Allentown the Raven's Croft is popular as much as a nightclub can be on a small island off the Washington Coastline can be in the NW Pacific. Here she lives a quiet life. The Camarilla are accepting of her. The Anarch put up with her antics as long as she continues to be careful about not stepping over the line and drawing the Second Inquisition's attention.
