James Herrera was born in the tail end of the hippie revolution. His parents were full-blown hippies, and James was lucky to have a normal name. When he was old enough to go to school, James’ parents settled down in a small town in upstate New York. This town was very conservative, so the hippy parents had to be careful not to make the rest of the town angry. While they were mostly successful, James picked up some of their more free-love and drug cultured ways. He began getting involved with the drug culture in his high school, especially with the athletes. While they weren’t allowed to even hint at drug use during the season, James was a regular supplier during their off seasons. His parents found out about this right before James was to graduate High School. He was asked to lead his parents down to his marijuana plants and destroy them before someone else found out. Upon bringing his parents to the location of his plants, he had a seizure episode, which was odd, because he had no history of seizures. During this episode, he spoke to a bunch of nature spirits around the plants and apologized for what he was about to do. The spirits began to sooth him, and he felt a deeply hidden part of himself come to the forefront. He awoke to his worried parents and a small fire beginning in the hemp plant patch. Upon waking up, his parents rushed him to the local hospital. Once there, James was subjected to many different neurological tests which he passed. However, there was one unexplainable difference with James’ appearance now. His eyes, which had previously been a light blue, were now a moss green. Over the next few months, before going off to college, James stayed at home most of the time, but was consumed by the plant world’s majesty. When he finally went off to college, he studied Biology with a focus on Botany. He graduated towards the top of his class, but he would have finished higher without his habit of smoking up at least once a week. Over the course of those four years, James found himself a freehold that was close to his school. It seemed that one of the local changelings worked in the Bursar’s office to find lost and solitary changelings and bring them into the fold. He was welcomed with open arms at first. However, he also brought chaos with him in the form of his magical strains of weed. His behavior and overall personality endeared him to the Unseelie court but pushed him away from the Seelie and the Shadow Court. Once he was done with school he left and began travelling the country, sampling the local weed, and instructing his fellow cultivators on how to increase the potency and yield of their plants. Occasionally, James would settle down, but he would move on after a while. He came to Harmony Island a few years ago and began cultivating his plants. He stayed hidden from the freehold while he slowly learned more about them. Recently, with the success of his plants and infiltration efforts into law enforcement, he has focused more on joining the Freehold. Once he makes his presence known, he will fully join the freehold.
