A Not So Distant Whistle

As we traveled C’ets Cyber Realm and in the broken ruins of the lower part of Spider City, we found ourselves at the edge of a decaying concrete structure, looking down into a hazy field half beneath the upper city structure. There was all manner of rubbish here, from broken vehicles to appliances to other things we were unable to identify. Through this field of refuse was a train track, and coming through the smog very slowly was an old steam train.

A long stretch of open container cars rolled behind it, and people stood on the top and sides of this with long poles. Some walked alongside the train easily, going at the same easy pace. Though as they got closer to us, we could tell that these were shifters, in glabro or sometimes crinos. As they passed through, they hooked items with their poles or picked things up and tossed them in.

As often as they retrieved things to put in the train, more things appeared around and behind where the train had been. There didn’t seem to be a lot of consideration about what goes into the containers, as everything from spools of outdated cable to what looked like a CRT monitor go into them.

Small Pharma, squinted at the items, came to a realization that the items being picked up could easily be used to build something. Something massive and interesting.

Or very terrible.

"What are they doing with all that... who are they...?" Small Pharma murmured as she shifted to one side a bit, trying to get a better look into the open cars.

With restrained disdain, Do your Worst spoke, "My guess, those that have given themselves to the Weaver."

Lullaby Lores nods with a furrowed brow. "I've never even imagined anything like this..."

Ivory Carved Death milled about, still looking as uncomfortable as ever, it's almost angering, seething from him. However, he focuses on the goals to find out what this was for with the others of the group.

After sniffing the air's putrid stench of smog, Kun's Fury growled lowly. "Information on thing? Or from things collecting trash?" There was contempt in his voice. He's not happy about being in this realm to say the least.

"I'm guessing they're picking up discards, probably supposed to recycle it. Something's off though." Dad Jokes mentioned.

Nostalgia’s Guide chimed in right after, “You can upcycle things.”

"Yes, you can. But, are they doing that?" Lullaby Lores asked.

Small Pharma, spoke up, “Microwaves have the biggest capacitors easily available... and old monitors.... huuuuh." she frowned, contemplating the junkyard. "They're not just choosing at random."

“Well, if I was going to invade this place, I would start somewhere unwanted,” said Nostalgia's Guide.

Anego-Hada’s ears twitched rapidly, "Oh I have got to see this..." she shifted down to lupus, grinned deviously.

Anego-Hada, and Small Pharma, both observed as the group worked to figure out what the train and all the items were for. Ivory Carved Death was so uncomfortable there, that the normally highly social and empathic shark, was having a hard time determining the others' emotional states.

So they discussed as they looked, gleaming as much information as they could. Discussion of getting on the train had been made, but they reminded each other that it was likely not the direction they were wanting to go, not with the mountain that was mentioned. Though impressively, the group had the right people to determine a lot just from what they saw.

The train was a sturdy and solidly built piece of machine, even for its outdated nature. Likely able to withstand attempts to derail it, keep going even if it hit large animals or struck by a tornado. Let alone the trinitrotoluene and old detonator it was hauling. We determined the ones servicing the train were Dyads and Drones of Static C’et. Their long poles they used to load would also make amazing weapons, and we were sure they knew that and how to use them. We were outnumbered, not just our small group, but the entire expedition.

While Ce’t is all about creation, innovation and moving forward, everything that was down there, usually seemed to be left to Q’yrl. Static C’et, however, was more interested in recycling all these items than letting them go.

After determining that we learned all we could, we left to return to the main path and catch up with our Umbral guides.

We would share this story to any that would listen, and continue to do so now.
